California School for the Deaf, Fremont, (CSD) prides itself on an extensive competitive athletic program. Provision is made for as many students as possible to participate in all sports. Our teams participate in the Bay Area Conference (BAC), Bay Shore Athletic League (BSAL) and Bay Football League (BFL) under the auspices of the Northern Coast Section (NCS) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Through participation, through participation and lessons of sportsmanship, dedication and teamwork are learned and serve as valuable life-learning experience.
Please see our Winter 2011-2012 schedules:
We have had one of the most successful winter sports season combined!! It was all a result from a school wide effort with our fantastic parent support and we are proud of our student-athletes for their accomplishments this season!! Our coaches have done a tremendous job leading our teams all winter!!
JV Boys Basketball had a great season going 18-5!! Probably the most wins in a long time if not a record!! The future is bright as long as the boys keep on soaring higher and higher in and out of the classroom.
Varsity Boys Basketball finished the season with a record of 24-6 which had the most victories ever in a season with 24. The team won the Clerc Classic and the Western States Basketball Classic. The team also was the second team ever to win the league championship since 1986. The team also won the league playoffs finishing both the regular season and league post season undefeated for the first time ever. The team won the 1st round in Division V for the second time ever (2006 being the first). This allowed the team to host the second round Division V playoffs for the first time ever. Our season ended on a 6 point loss to perennial power University High School in S.F.
Varsity Girls Basketball completed a successful season as WSBC and first time ever Clerc Classic champions defeating the defending champ Indiana School for the Deaf at Indiana. The team finished 3rd in a very competitive league and made it to the league championship and lost to rival Emery. Our hopes for qualifying for the North Coast Section did not come true but nevertheless the Eagles had one of the best season in school history. They completed the season with a record of 15-10.
The Cheerleading team did a wonderful job supporting all of our teams this season!! They did the National Anthem for many of our games and made sure our fans were involved in all of our games and supported the teams to soar higher!! The Cheerleading team also won the Western State Cheerleading Classic for the 3rd time in a row!!!
The Wrestling team had another great season!! The team finished a heartbreaking loss in the Willigan Tournament to Model Secondary School for the Deaf by one point, 39-38. The team did so well in the individual tournament the next day and had 5 first place winners. The team finished the regular season undefeated and also won the league playoff championship. The Eagles sent 10 wrestlers to the North Coast Section playoffs which was a largest in a long time and they all had the experience to grapple with the best in the North Coast Section regardless of school size. Shawn Benavente got the 5th place medal in the 220 pound class. He barely made it to the state, the top 4 finishers qualify for the state. We are proud of our wrestlers and Shawn for representing CSD at the NCS!!
As you can see there were a lot of accomplishments and records made and broken this winter season!! We are all to be proud of our Eagles and their teams. The success of our teams is attributed to all of us here at CSD and to our supporters outside of CSD as all of us have had some impact on our student-athletes one way or another.
Thank you for your tremendous support and creating great memories that we all can cherish!!
There are no games this week and as our Spring Sports teams are starting their practices and preparing for games to begin next week and so on. We look forward to a successful season this Spring.
