Safe Facilities Checklist

Classroom and Hallway Settings
  • Assign a seating chart, where feasible, for students to ensure that close contacts within classrooms are minimized and easily identifiable.

  • Space students/teachers at least 6 feet apart, if possible, in existing facilities. In cases where that may not be practicable, other dividers/barriers between students may be used.

  • Establish stable classroom cohorts for the entire school day, as feasible.

  • Ensure adequate supplies to minimize sharing of high-touch materials (art supplies, equipment, electronic devices, etc.) to the extent practicable, or limit use of supplies and equipment to one group of students at a time.

  • Keep students’ belongings separate.

  • Reposition furniture and equipment in the classroom to facilitate distancing and reduce high touch surfaces.

  • Increase ventilation by opening windows and hallway doors or use HVAC dampers for fresh air, as practicable.

  • Based on many conditions, there may also be times to utilize outdoor space for learning activities to the extent feasible.

  • Place markings on floors to facilitate physical distancing, where applicable. Have students face one direction while seated in class.

  • Conduct physical education classes outdoors whenever possible.

  • Maintain separation of classes and with appropriate physical distancing within groups to the extent practicable.

  • Minimize mass movement through hallways as much as practicable.

  • Establish designated, one-way walking/passage areas, as applicable in and outside of buildings.


Restrooms
  • Limited number of students allowed into restroom at one time.

  • Disinfecting will take place throughout the day.

  • Outside doors and windows open or use HVAC dampers for fresh air as practicable

  • Visual cues on floor for social distancing

  • Staff will monitor bathroom use and capacity as needed.

  • Restrooms will be stocked with soap and paper towels.

  • Water fountains will not be open for use until further notice.

 
Library
  • Libraries will be opened when practical and will be a site-by-site decision based on school needs.

  • Remove all common touch items (pens, supplies, snacks, water station, etc.)

  • Periodic disinfecting of high-touch surfaces throughout the day.

  • Signage (cough/sneeze etiquette, traffic flow, etc.)

  • Disinfectant and paper towels at the front counter.

  • Books will be distributed by library staff, when practicable, to minimize unnecessary contact.

  • CSD may open windows and doors or use HVAC dampers for fresh air as practicable.

  • CSD may also use plexiglass shields as needed based on each library facility.

  • Dedicated entry and exit, if possible (limit students entering and exiting if possible)

  • Limit students to available seats and physically distance all desks or tables so they are a least 6- feet apart.


Lockers
  • Lockers will not be in use to avoid unnecessary mixing and congregation of students in hallways in all academic buildings.

  • Gym lockers will not be used to avoid mixing and congregation of students and/or athletes in the locker rooms.


Playgrounds
  • Custodians will spray disinfectant and/or electrostatic mist the playgrounds daily in the mornings.

  • CSD encourages students to bring water bottles or use available water bottle fillers on their sites as practicable.

  • Playground drinking fountains will be closed.

  • Provide spacing indicators on ground for lining up at playgrounds.

  • Staggered recess schedules to keep cohorts stable.

  • Cohorts wash their hands before and after playing on the playground.


Staff Break Rooms
  • Limit the number of staff who can be in the break room at a given time per occupancy signage, based on current health guidelines.

  • Depending on developing health orders, these spaces may also be closed for all use.

  • Visual cues on floor for social distancing, as applicable.


Department/Building Offices
  • Visual cues on floor for social distancing, as applicable.

  • Plexiglass barriers, as applicable.

  • Limit traffic to accommodate social distancing guidelines.

  • Establish dedicated entry and exit, where possible.

  • Remove all common touch items (pens, supplies, snacks, water station, etc.).

  • Disinfectant and paper towels for countertops and phones.


Counseling Offices
  • Remove all common touch items (pens, supplies, snacks, paper supplies, cups, etc.)

  • Disinfect high touch surfaces at least once daily.

  • Signage for cough/sneeze etiquette, handwashing, and traffic flow

  • Remove or rearrange furniture to allow for 6-foot spacing.

  • Increase ventilation by opening windows and hallway doors or use HVAC dampers for fresh air, as practicable.

  • Change check in points to minimize contact.

  • Plexiglass desk shields where applicable.

  • Masks, gloves, and face shields for appropriate staff

  • Dedicated entry and exit, if possible

  • Designated waiting area


Health Office and Symptom/Quarantine Rooms
  • Staff working in health office will wear protective equipment when working with students.

  • Designated space to care for students with routine needs.

  • Designated, separate space to care for students
 

Unsafe or unhealthy work conditions, practices or procedures regarding COVID-19 shall be reported to this email:  COVID@csdf-cde.ca.gov.  Corrections may be made in a timely manner. In addition, there may be weekly inspections to ensure that CSD campus is safe for all.
