hello everyone I hope you're enjoying your summer as for me I've been working what the same time I've enjoyed my work as a superintendent was summer time I lay back and relax with a staff being gone and the students gone and lay back and actually it's been quite the opposite I've been very busy making changes and planning for next year actual call next month and getting ready to go I really enjoyed my time at the same time address and vacation take this opportunity to respond to the deaf youth USA's open letter they sent out about a month ago I believe in regards csds apparent insensitivity involvement with isms really specifically social justice that play the question about the bear hunt statue that we have here on campus the statue was made in 1892 by sculptor Douglas Tilden here from 1875 it's been here ever since this letter these issues and I did not want to respond quickly this requires meetings research thought consideration dialogue and that takes time and coordination  at the same time as you all aware of it summer time and people are gone and I've been trying to get people on schedule and get a hold of them for meetings and coordinate this and that the other I feel very happy of what I listen to what I'm aware of regarding these debates in regards to social justice here at CST and also the bear hunt statue itself so I want to address these social justice aspect here at the school  I'm very proud to say that we have already made great progress in addressing these various ism racism autism for example we have a hero position called the diversity specialist play one other two deaths was the country have a position like this committed to addressing his various issues through Creek elem training presentations Etc  what is the cricket play club that we put in place what starts in the ECE program the early childhood education program we have anti-bias training sign language training in the elementary school we also have a program and the middle school and the high school make an example the elementary school has staff training culturally cancel training CRT for short running antavious that's been established in the last 2 years in the middle school is a class that's called social that means required to take this class in the high school we have a whole variety of programs are belief is empowering the student licking it involve that's office requires hands-on experience and what this means as we create a whole variety of opportunities for students if the school we have a variety of Sage that blossomed of Asian students African American students Hispanic and Latino student groups that have founded programs and we're noticing that's a huge increase in a change in the leadership as a diversity here and that's a good viewpoints their feelings their thoughts are all put into this read into CFCs activities into our vision and our forward progress with these students  ask for staff we have training for example last year we went ahead with the LGBT training and they went through that training we had staff development day and we had scheduled activities and training I wanted to let you all know that release EST is very proactive and very very proud of our school in this regard  going on to the second read in the paper hunt statue be back up a little bit first I want to let you know that all of these things have led to discussions about the bear hunt statue after the logo check last spring I decided to stop that right after that we start a dialogue about the bear hunt itself what does it mean the meaning behind it stop and discussions and someone came to me I had to discussion with this person about developing a curriculum to discuss more about the Beer Hunter puts off the history doubles tilden's work different perspectives what does art mean the interpretation imagination identity a whole variety of issues and I support dialogue we hit a trickle and developed and here it is  the cricket was actually outline three weeks prior to of the death the used Mercedes letter that was distributed so I feel that we are very ahead of the curve here at the school we let a good pulse in the community basement survey sent and we had 900 sponsors in 24 hours yes you don't sing all that we have to be committed to this so again I'm very proud of CSD and it's very Progressive movements I was 3 weeks are there open letter we've had this Cricket undeveloped moving on to my other point here on the bear hunt statue itself this a subject of great discussion around Community I think that's very healthy I myself as a person and fascinated by all this discussion the viewpoints in the sharing  it's a normal response to this very important topic for the Statue itself I've already made my decision will be leaving it as it is I will not reconsider this decision instead I'm committed to continuing csds traditions on discussions on other social justice topics in she was with the ncsd in our community again I want to emphasize I'm very pleased with the depth  and the series list of the discussions that I have seen here within csds Community about the commitment that we have for our students Our Community member for example I've already given deaf youth USA to meet with myself my cabinet members to have a discussion and that's what it is dialogue in discussions very powerful I hope that will lead to very positive discussions and positive outcomes this year and in subsequent years again all this is what about our students here at Siesta high quality education for them their future and that way we can continue learning experiencing and thriving
