Student Handbook

In Case of an Emergency

During an emergency response, school personnel will notify families as soon as it is safe to do so by:

  • phone
  • e-mail
  • text
  • in person
CSD has an electronic messaging system that will send messages to families who submit emergency contact information to the admission office during registration. The electronic messaging system will send out information and instructions to voice phones, e-mail and/or texting devices.

It is important to follow the instructions for everyone’s safety and the effective operation of emergency response personnel.

In case of a lockdown, law enforcement officials may be in charge of the response and may set up a location where families can meet their children.

During any emergency, families’ communication with school personnel is important in ensuring that all children are accounted for. After the initial response during which staff will ensure that all students have been located, a Family Reunification Center will be established where families can meet and sign out their children. This procedure may take time. Family cooperation is crucial during this process.

Please do not take children out of evacuation areas without the permission of school personnel or law enforcement.

Message from Superintendent

Dear CSD Students and Families:clark brooke

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! It is our hope that you find this handbook helpful to you. We encourage you to print it and place it in a convenient location at home, where it can be easily referenced. We value communication when it comes to ensuring that students, families, staff, faculty and administrators continue to be partners in education.

The ultimate goal of this handbook is to maintain an orderly, safe, and nurturing environment, where CSD students can achieve optimum academic, social, physical, and spiritual growth. We are all partners in this effort – everyone shares in the responsibility of making our school community a positive, supportive place that promotes the development of each student.

This handbook represents such partnership by outlining the expectations, policies and procedures that guide both student learning and student conduct at CSD. If you have any questions, please seek out for an answer by contacting the appropriate department principal/ supervisor.

This handbook is a result of the joint efforts of the Divisions within CSD and its stakeholders. We will also update the Student Handbook posted on our school website.

We thank you for your continued support of California School for the Deaf and all those who make up our school community.

With Eagle Pride,

Clark Brooke, Ed.S.

Superintendent
