Measure of Academic Progress

Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) is given to students in Grades 3 - 12 in the following areas: Reading, Language Usage, Mathematics and Science.

For students in our Special Needs program, MAP Reading, Language and Math is given to students in Grades 6 – 12.The goal areas are aligned to California’s Common Core Standard.

MAP is given on the computer and is an adaptive test. This means that the type of questions a student gets will depend on his answers to previous questions. If a student gets answers correct, the questions become harder. If a student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier.

RIT Score: At the end of the MAP test, students receive an RIT score. The RIT is a unit of measurement that is based on an equal interval scale (similar to inches or centimeters). This allows for comparison of scores each time a student takes a test in order to see growth in student learning.

Reading Range Scores: MAP also provides a reading range or Lexile score that provides information on the reading ability of the student. These scores can be used to help identify books that are in the reading range of the student and can be found in most libraries and bookstores. For more information on Lexile, see www.lexile.com.
